Cartogram of Washington's Counties

This value-by-area cartogram shows the counties of Washington scaled by the count of their most popular street name. Larger counts equate to larger, darker sizes.

Garfield (lower right) has no repeated street names and is scaled 1:1. Whatcom (upper left) has 19 streets named Cedar and is scaled 10 times its normal size.

The actual poster is 50 x 56 inches. It was a lot of fun to make with ArcGIS Pro and assemble using PowerPoint.

Road data came from the Harvard Geospatial Library, counties and water data came from the Washington Geospatial Open Data Portal.
